Jun 06, 2022

Let’s sip today’s coffee in tribute to Angelo Moriondo, father of all espresso machines!

It’s the anniversary of Angelo Moriondo’s birth (Turin, 6 June 1851), the entrepreneur who invented the first espresso machine at a time when preparing coffee took at least 5 minutes!

It was at the 1884 General Expo in Turin that Moriondo presented a machine that had a steam engine with a large copper boiler that pushed heated water through a bed of coffee grounds, and a second boiler that produced steam to complete the infusion.

The new coffee maker aroused great curiosity, visitors flocked to taste its coffee and greatly appreciated that curious machine capable of making 300 cups of coffee in an hour or even 10 in one go. Moriondo was awarded a bronze medal at the Exposition, received the patent for a "New steam machinery for the economic and instantaneous confection of coffee beverage, method ‘A. Moriondo’" and continued to improve his invention in the following years.

The coffee world is dotted with personalities who, driven by their passion, have found intelligent solutions to bring the best coffee into your cup, #makeitbetter is our motto and it’s what drives us to create innovative technologies to offer you the best espresso!
